LinkedIn Experiments

Published on August 28, 2025

This week I have been running an experiment by sharing a career development topic on LinkedIn over the course of a week. Originally I planned to do it for a lot longer, however, I’ve learnt content creation is a lot of work on top of a full time job and juggling the school holidays. There is no way I could continue this for longer in my current situation. It did take me hours to curate the posts as I wanted them to be things that I thought might be valuable.

I wanted to understand if engagement increased if you post regularly and what types of career development topics people were interested in.

Behind every platform there is data — over the course of a week and 5 posts there was:

  • 28 new followers. The followers seemed to be interested most in topics related to finance. The topics I posted were the emergency fund creation and job hopping to increase your salary.
  • Most interactions were around the posts related to finance.
  • The more informative topics, such as reporting to your manager or designing your day at the start did not gain as much engagement, however, there were those that still found it useful.

I’ve learnt:

  • I don’t enjoy posting daily. Reducing the frequency to once or twice a week might be better.
  • I was feeling a little awkward about sharing finance topics, however, I am glad I did as I now know people are open to talk about these topics.
  • Experimentation is fun! I need to keep doing fun things like this.
  • I like to use these platforms to have conversations with others. The posts where I had people sharing their thoughts and experience gave me the most joy.
