It’s not only about the customer

Sometimes I observe a focus on how testing is about improving customer satisfaction.

What about your stakeholders?

The people that have an interest in the outcome. That could be the people in various departments within your organisation — legal, compliance, marketing, project management, CTO, Engineering managers, engineers, product managers and so on.

When you start to think about it from this wider perspective it can give you opportunities to explore!

What is important to each of those stakeholders and why?

The easiest way to find out is to ask them.

A simple example could be that the company website is important to the marketing team to drive opportunities.

One day you observe that all the videos are broken on the website. An opportunity! You let the marketing team know of the issue and it’s fixed quickly, thus making it more likely to drive engagement.
