The Agile Testing Quadrants
The Agile Testing Quadrants are a thinking tool that help teams plan and execute testing activities so that they can confidently deliver customer value. Janet Gregory and I have loved and used the Agile Testing Quadrants for more than 20 years now. And, we know many other people and their teams who have also found them invaluable to guide their conversations about testing and quality. The quadrants help teams ensure adequate test coverage and build quality in.
The quadrants have evolved over the years. I love seeing people sharing them in conference presentations, blog posts and the like. Lovely people often email us asking permission to use the quadrants in a publication or presentation. We appreciate being asked, and, we are happy for others to use them. We also appreciate when Janet and I, as well as Brian Marick who came up with the original agile testing matrix, are credited.
People often use an older version of the quadrants. My motivation for this post is to share the latest version, the one we included in our book Agile Testing Condensed. Please use this one if you’d like to include the Agile Testing Quadrants in your own publication or presentation. We may update them again in the future, and welcome suggestions!
It’s important to understand how to use the quadrants. You find lots of information in our books. Also, I wrote a blog post on using the Agile Testing quadrants some time ago. It’s still useful and relevant.
